Mathias Jørgensen: Jeg kommer tilbage til OB

I starten af januar var Mathias Jørgensen på træningslejr med den tyske storklub, Borussia Mönchengladbach, men det blev dog ikke til et skifte til den tyske storklub.

I starten af februar var den unge angriber dog igen draget afsted for at besøge en klub, og det var lidt overraskende, da det kom frem, at det var New York Red Bulls fra MLS.

I sidste uge blev skiftet til den amerikanske klub så officielt, og i denne uge drager Mathias Jørgensen så til USA, hvor han allerede har fået styr på et sted at bo, så den unge mand er helt klar til hans nye eventyr.

Skiftet til New York Red Bulls gik ret hurtigt for angriberen, i hvert fald i forhold til, hvornår han selv fik at vide, at der var interesse.

– Jeg fik det at vide under træningslejren i Tyrkiet. Jeg tror, det var en eller to dage før, vi skulle hjem. Der begyndte interessen at opstå for mig, men forhandlingerne mellem klubberne har jo så eksisteret før, uden jeg har vidst noget om det.

Den amerikanske liga er normalt ikke der, de danske spillere tager til i hobetal, og Jørgensen erkender da også, at han var lidt skeptisk, da han første gang hørte om interessen.

– Jeg kan lige så godt være ærlig og sige, jeg tænkte, ‘Det her kommer ikke til at ske’. Jeg sagde til min far og agent i telefonen, at det ikke var mig, og at jeg ikke ville derover og spille fodbold sammen med ‘sådan nogle’. Det har jo været kendt for, at det er afdankede stjerner, der tager derover, men så fik jeg en ordentlig snak med både min agent og min far, og jeg tog også en snak med Jakob og Henrik hver for sig, og de rådede mig til at tage over og kigge på det, og se hvad det var for noget, og jeg fandt også ud af med mig selv, at det egentlig kunne være meget sjovt at komme over og kigge.

– Det udmyntede sig så i, at min interesse for det blev helt enorm, og jeg valgte at lave en aftale, og det er selvfølgelig positivt, men jeg vil godt sige, at min første mavefornemmelse var, at jeg ikke skulle tage afsted, så det var godt, jeg lige fik kigget på det.

Hvad er dit kendskab til ligaen derovre?

– Det er blevet godt. I hvert fald omkring den klub, jeg skal være i. Det er en dejlig klub, der tror på unge spillere, og som sidste år vandt deres Conference, men røg så ud til mestrene i playoff. Det er en klub, der vil mig, og vil give mig spilletid forhåbentlig. Det kommer selvfølgelig an på, hvordan jeg gør det, sådan er fodbold jo altid. Men det er en klub, som har vist rigtig meget interesse, og som rigtig gerne vil videreudvikle mig, og jeg ser gode chancer for at videreudvikle mig hos dem, så det er egentlig der, vi lander.

Den hurtige angriber har skrevet under på en tre-årig kontrakt med amerikanerne, og han har da også en klar ambition for de tre år.

– Det er vel, at jeg skal bidrage med så mange mål som muligt, og også se at jeg kan udvikle mig. Jeg er kun 18 år, så for mig er det hverken penge, eller hvor stor klubben er, det handler om. Det er en klub, jeg skal være i og udvikle mig selv som fodboldspiller. Mit mål med fodbolden er at se, hvor god jeg kan blive ud fra mit talent og det hårde arbejde, jeg lægger for dagen. Der bedømmer jeg, at det her er det næste skridt, jeg skal tage for at videreudvikle mig som fodboldspiller, og det er også derfor, jeg lander en aftale derovre, for at tage det næste step og se, hvor god jeg kan blive. Så må vi se, hvor langt det bærer.

Har det spillet ind på dit valg, at det er en del af Red Bull-koncernen?

– Ja, det har det vel. Det er aldrig en dårlig koncern at komme ind i, Yussuf gør det jo meget godt nede i Leipzig. De har nogle fornuftige klubber i både Salzburg og Leipzig, men egentlig er det jo en klub for sig selv, og det er den, jeg skal over til. Målet er jo også, at jeg skal være god derovre, jeg skal have det godt og videreudvikle mig rigtig meget, så jeg forhåbentlig kan komme videre på den længere bane. Målet er ikke, at jeg skal ende min karriere derovre, men det er jo et step for begge parter for at se, hvad de kan få ud af mig, og hvad jeg kan få ud af at være hos dem.

Mathias Jørgensen nåede at være i OB i to år, inden udlandet kaldte, og der er ingen tvivl om, at han har været rigtig glad for tiden i Odense. Han vil da også tilbage og spille for klubben igen.

– Jeg kommer tilbage, inden min karriere slutter. For pokker mand. Jeg har ikke smækket med nogle døre. Jeg har bare haft to år, der har været helt fantastiske i klubben, og jeg regner også med at blive bosiddende her. Hvis jeg kommer hjem til Danmark igen, så kommer jeg ikke til at bo andre steder, det er helt sikkert. Jeg håber også, jeg kan spille fodbold til den tid.
